Sender ID Registration vs Sender ID Protection – what’s the difference?
When companies send SMS, the sender name (Sender ID) is an important part of both branding and security. Two common terms are Sender ID Registration and Sender ID Protection – but they do not mean the same thing.
Sender ID Registration means registering your sender name with operators. This may be required in some countries and helps with message delivery – but it usually does not give you exclusive rights to the name.
Sender ID Protection means your sender name is protected so that no one else can use it. This reduces the risk of spoofing and fraud, and increases trust with the recipient.
In short:
- Registration = register the name
- Protection = protect the name
Important to keep in mind
Rules around Sender ID vary between countries.
